Use mindfulness to control weight

Most of the time I make breakfast for myself. Prepare salad, roast bread, brew coffee…I always listen to morning news in the same time, and call that an “efficiency”.

平常我都是自己做早餐,烤麵包、弄沙拉、煮咖啡…我都會一邊聽新聞一邊準備這些東西,因為感覺這樣很「省時」。

However, I found some negative impacts from this habit. First, I became less aware of what ingredients I was using, and how much food I had put into the dish. It usually ended up with too much amount of food for one breakfast to have.

不過我最近發現這麼做其實不太好,因為常常會忘記自己到底放了什麼到早餐盤裡,然後就會不小心放太多量。

Second, The food tasted plain even I had put too much salt in it unconsciously. That’s because I had over cooked them, or flavored them with wrong proportion of seasoning. In addition, I wasn’t paying attention to what I was eating at all. I was browsing the internet while having breakfast.

而且就算我不小心放太多鹽,食物吃起來也總是不太有味道。我猜是因為我煮太久,或是調味的比例怪怪的。更何況我總是一邊吃早餐一邊上網,根本就沒去注意吃到什麼味道。

Today, I decided not to multitask myself. Instead, I concentrated on the process of food preparing, spent a quality time to enjoy the meal. Surprisingly (maybe not so surprising), I ate only half of the amount of food compared with my normal breakfast and felt satisfied through out the morning. As I slowed down the speed of taking food, every bite of them revealed unique flavor and texture. I’ve never found so much fun in eating food. It’s like a secret dialogue between me and the food.

今天我決定要專注在早餐的準備,然後乖乖地安靜吃早餐,不要再分心做別的事情。結果我只吃了大約平常一半的量,但整個早上都不會餓。細嚼慢嚥的時候,會覺得每一口的感受都不一樣,食物的風味變得特別清晰,很有趣,好像食物在對你講話一樣。

I think, be mindful of what I am eating may be good way to keep my body healthy. I become more sensible to the body reactions toward the food, whether it’s light, easy-to-digest, or it’s heavy, over-processed food that makes you feel tired for the whole day. I should keep the awareness in the future, and expand it to other meals I have even when eat outside. Let’s see how much can I do and what can I get from it. :)

我想,細心關照自己攝取的食物,可以幫助保持身體健康。因為我可以感受到身體接收食物的不同反應,可以判斷食材的品質好壞,容不容易消化吸收,還是會造成身體負擔。我應該繼續保持這種對食物的覺察,不只在早餐,也運用在其他飲食,甚至外食。期待看到它帶給我的改變!:)
